Job Description

Vertical Recruitment is working closely with one of the North West’s leading Building Services Contractors, the business has a reputation for delivering a number of significant regeneration schemes across the UK. This includes major high-rise mixed use developments. With a full order book for the next 4 years they are looking to expand the team with in-house design capability. Currently there is an excellent opportunity for Regional Design Manager in the Manchester office.

ROLE:

The Design Manager position will involve the day-to-day management of the in-house design capability as well as the management of external consultants. The position is ‘hands on’ and will involve a heavy design involvement, candidates would therefore need to demonstrate a strong Design background. Candidates will need to demonstrate a broad knowledge of the industry and will need to have obtained design experience in a range of sectors, including Commercial, Residential and Industrial. The position is open to candidates with either a Mechanical or Electrical background, candidate will however need to demonstrate a strong understanding of all ME&P disciplines and the design principles involved.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 15 years Design / Management experience within the Building Services Industry and will come from a Consultant or Contracting background. Candidates should be qualified to HNC standard as a minimum.

• The day-to-day management of an integrated M, E & P design team.
• The Management of external Design Consultancies.
• Contribute to our Business Development activities.
• Developing project design programmes.
• Managing work distribution and resource levels within the team.
• Delivering an integrated design in accordance with the design programme.
• Managing team design quality in accordance with company QA policies.
• Building strong individual relationships and team spirit.
• Provide an effective interface with Senior Management, other team Principals and other departments within the business.
• Take a leading role in achieving a high level of technical competence within the Design Department.
• Represent the company at post tender interviews / Presentations.
• Investigate and evaluate new methods and technologies.
• Support / mentor trainees and other team members.
• Take a pro-active approach to customer satisfaction.
