Utilities Network Design Engineer – East Midlands

Working directly under the guidance of and reporting to the Design Manager. The ideal candidate will have strong / Electric or Gas design awareness and be able to demonstrate previous experience within the utility industry.

Main Activities & Duties
Undertaking outline designs for tendering purposes
Detailed designs and submissions for LP, MP and IP distribution networks for domestic, commercial and industrial developments
Liaise with Gas Transporters regarding outstanding design approvals
Assist in submission of Completion Packs to adopting Gas Transporters
Assist in correcting rejections of Completion Packs from adopting Gas Transporters and returning for approval
Contact clients for resolution of design queries
Updating appropriate records for scheme progress
Provide technical support for business departments
Review external design elements
Offer full design support to the tendering team, construction team and clients
Assist with mentoring, coaching and guiding trainee engineers

he appropriate network tools such as SNAP / Windeb, and liaising with Business Development, Operations, and the client as required;
Conduct and record design Risk Assessments in relation to network types and construction methods to be incorporated into the design;
Liaise with the upstream and adopting asset owners to obtain design approvals;
Ensure the most cost effective multi-utility solution is designed, consistent with current
gas, electric and water standards;
Maintain records of the progress of each design in respect to approvals, communication, notices, change control etc.;
Maintain an audit trail of design records including calculations and assumptions made to support future audit, design, and design variation activity;

Desired Skills & Qualifications
Suitable engineering qualification (Degree/HND or equivalent)
Experience in designing/planning LV and HV electrical utility infrastructure and substation design
Knowledge of technical specifications of equipment, substations, cables and plant
Knowledge of DNO/IDNO network construction including a knowledge of G81 documents
Understanding of the current NERS requirements
City & Guilds 5831 Gas Network Design Qualification or minimum 3 years’ experience
Experience in designing/ planning LP, MP and IP gas utility infrastructure including governors
Knowledge of technical specifications of equipment including governors, pipe and fittings
Knowledge of GT/ IGT network construction including knowledge of IGE documents
Understanding of the current GIRS requirements
Understanding of CDM Regulations and N.R.S.W.A
Understanding of ISO09001, ISO14001 & ISO018001
IT Literate
SNAP and Gasworks literate
A team player with the ability to work independently
Excellent communication skills

Experience of multi utilities
Good knowledge of Microsoft Office / AutoCAD
