Vertical Recruitment is working with a leading multidisciplinary consultancy that is looking to appoint a Associate Electrical Engineer to join its Building Environments team in Manchester.

Current projects include:
- A new 5,500-capacity stand is being delivered at a historic football ground, complete with hospitality, media, and player facilities, transforming one of the oldest stadiums in the world.
- At the heart of a major university campus, a world-class library and teaching building is being created, setting a new benchmark for student learning and academic resources.
- The first new build on a landmark city-centre site will provide 500,000ft² of high-quality commercial office space alongside community facilities, forming the cornerstone of a wider regeneration.
We are recruiting for an Associate Electrical Engineer to join our client’s Building Environments team in their Manchester office. This role offers the opportunity to immerse yourself in a varied portfolio of engaging and technically challenging projects across the UK and internationally. It is well suited to an experienced Electrical Engineer looking to take on greater technical, commercial and leadership responsibility within a collaborative, multidisciplinary consultancy.
The team delivers cutting edge building services solutions that prioritise efficient use of materials, energy and natural resources. Working within a holistic, multidisciplinary design environment, engineers collaborate closely with sustainability, physics, façade, lighting and technology specialists to push the boundaries of low carbon and high performance building design across electrical, mechanical and public health disciplines.
As an Associate Electrical Engineer, you will be a key part of a close knit team providing high quality design engineering services across a wide range of projects. You will take ownership of delivering sustainable and innovative electrical design solutions for projects led from the Manchester office, while also contributing to international work within the wider portfolio.
Responsibilities are likely to include:
- Contributing to the leadership of the electrical team and taking on a project leadership role where required
- Communicating directly with clients, providing innovative design solutions and managing expectations
- Developing and maintaining relationships with clients, contractors, architects and developers
- Preparing technical and financial proposals for new work
- Managing the workload of engineers and technicians
- Preparing technical specifications
- Monitoring the financial performance of projects and managing job and project administration, including resourcing and expenditure
- Undertaking detailed electrical building services design and calculations using Revit and Amtech
- Supporting high quality, performance led design with an understanding of embodied carbon
- Embracing new technologies and approaches to improve performance and support net zero carbon targets by 2030
- Ensuring projects are delivered to an excellent standard, within agreed deadlines and budgets
- Actively engaging with colleagues across disciplines, including participation in group discussions, events and seminars
- Mentoring and supporting junior team members, with the potential to progress into an early line management role
We are keen to speak with candidates who can demonstrate:
- Extensive electrical design experience within an MEP consultancy, including experience acting as a project leader
- Experience working across multiple sectors, ideally including large scale or complex projects
- Strong interpersonal and organisational skills with the ability to build relationships with clients and project teams
- Professional registration with a relevant institution such as CIBSE or IET
- A strong understanding of other building services disciplines alongside an electrical specialism
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- Broad design knowledge, including experience working to British, US and European codes of practice
- Experience using industry standard analysis software such as Revit and Amtech, with the ability to quickly learn new tools
- Digital engineering, automation or coding skills would be advantageous
