Senior Quantity Surveyor

  • Location Tilbury, ENG
  • Salary £65k/year - 75k/year
  • Posted April 20, 2026

We are supporting a consultancy engaged in the commercial delivery of a major UK energy infrastructure scheme in Kent, forming part of a significant programme to reinforce and modernise the national high-voltage transmission network.

The project is a key element of the UK’s energy transition and involves the replacement of critical legacy infrastructure originally installed in the 1960s. Works include the delivery of a new high-voltage cable tunnel beneath the River Thames between Tilbury (Essex) and Gravesend (Kent), alongside associated cabling, headhouse structures, and upgrades to existing overhead line infrastructure across the wider route.

This nationally significant programme is designed to improve network capacity and resilience, enabling the transfer of cleaner, more affordable energy across the South East and beyond.

With full planning approval secured and construction already underway, this is a live, long-term infrastructure project offering exposure to complex tunnelling, marine-crossing engineering, and high-voltage transmission works.

This role will suit an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor seeking a leading position in the commercial management of a technically complex infrastructure scheme, working closely with engineering, delivery, and client teams to ensure strong commercial control across all stages of delivery.

The position offers a hybrid working arrangement, combining site-based presence across Kent and Essex with flexible remote working.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage project budgets, forecasts, and actual costs across major infrastructure packages spanning Kent and Essex
  • Administer NEC3/NEC4 contracts, including compensation events, variations, and full contractual compliance
  • Support pre-construction activities including consents, enabling works, and PCSAs across multiple work fronts
  • Identify, assess, and manage commercial risks and opportunities across tunnelling and overhead line works
  • Prepare detailed cost reports, forecasts, and commercial updates for clients and internal stakeholders
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, designers, and subcontractors to support efficient delivery
  • Undertake occasional site visits across Kent and Essex to maintain commercial oversight and engagement

About You

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within large-scale infrastructure projects
  • Strong background in utilities, power, energy, or transmission projects preferred
  • Excellent working knowledge of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts (essential)
  • Experience managing compensation events, variations, and change control processes
  • Strong commercial acumen with excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills
  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
  • RICS chartership (or working towards) desirable but not essential

Why Apply?

  • Opportunity to work on a nationally significant energy infrastructure programme across Kent and Essex
  • Exposure to complex tunnelling works beneath the River Thames and high-voltage transmission systems
  • Involvement in one of the UK’s key network reinforcement projects supporting the energy transition
  • Strong pipeline of long-term infrastructure work within a well-established consultancy environment
  • Flexible working arrangements alongside site-based responsibilities
