The Opportunity

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a major Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project. We are looking for a commercially driven professional with a strong contractor-side background who can take ownership of complex contractual matters and maximise commercial outcomes on a live infrastructure project.

Working as part of the commercial team, you'll play a key role in managing NEC contractual processes, leading commercial negotiations, and ensuring the business's contractual entitlement is fully protected.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercial management of a live BESS infrastructure project.
  • Manage and administer NEC contracts, ensuring contractual obligations and entitlements are maintained.
  • Prepare, assess and negotiate Compensation Events and variations.
  • Build robust contractual submissions supported by clear evidence and programme impact.
  • Manage and resolve subcontractor claims.
  • Lead commercial negotiations with the client to achieve positive commercial outcomes.
  • Challenge client assessments where appropriate and confidently defend contractual positions.
  • Provide strategic commercial advice to the project and leadership teams.
  • Attend and lead commercial meetings with clients and stakeholders.

Essential Experience

  • Proven Senior Quantity Surveyor experience working for a principal contractor on major infrastructure, energy or civil engineering projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts.
  • Extensive experience managing:
  • Compensation Events
  • Variations
  • Contractor claims
  • Subcontractor claims
  • Commercial negotiations
  • Ability to produce well-reasoned contractual arguments supported by contractual entitlement.
  • Confident negotiating with clients and senior stakeholders, with the credibility to challenge decisions where appropriate.
  • Strong communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable Experience

Experience within one or more of the following sectors is highly desirable:

  • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
  • Substations
  • Heavy Civils
  • Power Transmission & Distribution
  • Renewable Energy Infrastructure
