Prior to establishing Vertical Recruitment, James enjoyed 10 years as a successful Recruitment Consultant. In that time, he progressed from a junior position to managing a team of eight, with responsibility for placing permanent and contract candidates across the Structural Engineering and Building Services disciplines.
Having worked with James Anderson previously, and sharing a similar passion for the recruitment industry, the two set up Vertical Recruitment. (link to about us) in 2011.
James’ focus was to provide the highest level of service whilst responding very specifically to his client’s needs. He continued to work with clients on Structural Engineering roles whilst also developing Vertical’s Civil Engineering and Highways division. At that time, the industry was experiencing significant cuts in these areas and James’ ability to support his clients in new ways was instrumental in the success of the business. Despite the recession, James found himself working with new clients across multiple disciplines thanks to his professional and efficient approach. He credits that time as his biggest achievement having established and grown the business in a tough economic climate.
Clients established by James during that time remain long-standing clients today largely due to his approach to building lasting relationships.

Whilst James is responsible for the management of the business, he also continues to work closely with clients to attract and recruit candidates. He recognises the current demand for high quality staff and the competitive market that clients face. By helping them to shape roles and communicate their value as an employer, James is proactively sourcing senior roles for companies of all sizes through his extensive network of industry contacts.
