Job Description

We have an exclusive partnership with one of the UK’s leading residential property developers and operators to recruit a Development Director. The successful candidate will report to the CEO and Board, and be responsible for leading, managing and executing the pipeline growth strategy. They will also oversee a portfolio of off-plan, BTR, Co-Living, and PDR schemes across all RIBA stages of delivery across the UK.

The Development Director will be supported by a development team, which has the potential to expand based on the needs of the business. The Director will oversee and manage the working relationship between the construction arm of the business, the developer, and the internal client, as well as all necessary third-party consultants.

With a development pipeline worth £350m over the next 3 years across the UK, aggressive expansion plans, and secured funding from national and international lenders, the company is on track to being a tier 1, nationwide developer. The company has received a significant investment injection over the past 3 years, and for someone with equal ambition and a desire to grow within a fast-paced, growing business, this is a rare opportunity not to be missed.

The company’s unique end-to-end model encompasses everything from design, construction, sale, letting, and management of the properties they develop in-house. Their products’ standard is second to none, and the company philosophy of going the extra mile is evident in the quality of finish. In contrast to the ever-evolving landscape of the UK’s fastest-growing cities filled with glass towers and wannabe New York-style skyscrapers, they offer beautiful, boutique-style developments that offer true luxury and stylish living.

The company’s culture is a mixture of working hard and playing hard. The working environment in the office is friendly, supportive, empowering, and generally a great place to be. A brilliant mix of long-serving employees and new talent brings new, fresh ideas, with everyone focused on the common goal of driving the business forward in an exciting time of growth for everyone.

The key responsibilities of the Development Director include overseeing the end-to-end delivery of development programs from site identification and appraisal through to build and asset stabilization. They will also manage the legal processes, oversee asset management of existing portfolios, and be responsible for financial performance, budget management, and recording of expenditure.

The Development Director will manage the planning process and improve working practices and procedures with construction partners to drive delivery of on-time and to-budget development projects. They will also develop agency networks across the UK to identify development opportunities, create and implement risk management strategies, and people manage the development team, acting as a coach and mentor to support and develop colleagues.

The ideal candidate will have a track record in delivering large-scale residential-led property development programs, at least 10 years of experience in property development and in implementing growth strategies, a construction or property degree and/or professional body qualification, self-driven with a positive outlook and clear focus on high-quality delivery, clear written and verbal project reporting and communication skills, and strong technical knowledge of design, procurement, and construction processes. Additionally, the candidate should have leadership skills in coaching, supporting, and developing colleagues, good project and financial management, be commercially astute, and have negotiation and relationship-building skills with the ability to balance competing viewpoints.
