Coronovirus Response

Like so many others, our business is operating very differently right now. Our priority has been to keep our team and families safe whilst continuing to support our clients and candidates when they need it most.

To do this we have made some temporary changes to how we work. It would be naive to say it’s ‘business as usual’ but what we can say is that we are still very much ‘open for business’.

Due to some downturn in the sectors in which we work, we have placed some members of staff on furlough through the Government’s scheme but we continue to check-in on them and look forward to their return.

Our Directors and Management Team continue to work, offering our usual full recruitment service. As always, we are providing specialist property, engineering and construction recruitment services to reflect our clients’ needs.

Our team are working remotely but continue to be available throughout the working week and we encourage you to contact them with any queries.

Important Notice for Ltd. Company Contractors

In preparation of upcoming changes to IR35 legislation, we are working with our partners to ensure we work compliantly in line with HMRC guidelines.

We will also be working pro-actively with you, as Ltd. Company contractors to give you the support needed to manage changes and minimise any resulting effects.

What is IR35?

IR35 is a piece of legislation that tackles tax avoidance by workers, and the firms that hire them, who are supplying clients via an intermediary, such as a limited company, but who would be an employee if the intermediary was not used.

What is changing?

IR35 is not new, but there will be revisions to the guidelines and who is responsible for making sure the rules are followed. A stricter set of rules to better understand how you work on each site and a ‘determination statement’ to confirm this, is now mandatory.

Also, whereas previously it was you, as a limited company contractor, who was responsible for determining your status within the rules, this now falls with the end client with financial risk also to the company making payments to you.

What happens next?

The changes will not be officially implemented until April 2020; however, we will be working over the coming months to get ready for those changes. We have already enlisted the help of our expert partners to better understand our requirements as a business and determine a process to support our current limited company clients that ensures compliance in line with HMRC guidelines.

If you would like to discuss any aspect of IR35 please contact the office and ask for any Senior member of staff.

Vertical Recruitment & Place North West Salary Survey 2019

Earlier this year we undertook our third salary review in association with Place North West. 637 North West Property & Construction professionals shared their experience of industry salaries, benefits and challenges.

We are now pleased to publish the results which are broadly optimistic. Salaries are still on the increase and 70% of respondents are satisfied in their jobs. The findings reflect what we have observed in the market over the past 12 months; there are plenty of job opportunities and the industry feels buoyant.

Flexible working continues to rise up the agenda and the ‘skills gap’ persists in some areas. Once again, Brexit makes the top 3 challenges but is cited by far less respondents than in previous years.

The report provides valuable industry insight and makes for an interesting read.
We hope you find it to be a useful tool for hiring and decision-making in your business and as an individual working in the property industry.

Keeping our team hydrated

We at Vertical Recruitment are aware that keeping our team hydrated will aid them to perform at their very best throughout the work day. As a result, we decided to invest in watercoolers from AquAid.

Our unique relationship with AquAid has also given our company the opportunity to help those less fortunate than ourselves, because with each purchase an automatic donation is made to the Africa Trust.
These funds are used to build ‘Elephant Pumps’ – a modified version of an age old Chinese rope pulley system. One such pump is currently being installed in Africa on our behalf and it will be a much needed source of clean and fresh drinking water for many.

Our organisation’s name will be proudly displayed on our well and we look forward to adding a photo and letters of thanks from the villagers to our site in the near future.

To date AquAid have built over 8,000 such Elephant Pumps across parts of Zimbabwe, Malawi and Liberia; and have donated in excess of £15 million to charity.
