Job Description

Director of Sustainability – Building Services

Vertical Recruitment is working exclusively with a leading Independent Building Services Consultancy based in central Manchester. The company is experiencing significant growth which has led to an opportunity for a Director of Sustainability to join the team in Manchester or Liverpool.

The Role

The role is providing an all-round sustainability lead with an expertise in Net Zero Carbon design. Working in a multidiscipline environmental buildings team you will assist in providing a comprehensive design service to the company’s wide range of clients across multiple sectors. You will be the interface between clients and the inhouse multi-disciplinary teams, liaising with Architects and communicating with the team to develop the concept design. Working as part of a dynamic group of sustainability specialists providing consultancy advice on a wide range of subjects for all projects across the business.

The Individual? 

  • You will have experience in developing projects for planning and beyond and experience in strategic corporate or portfolio sustainability advice.
  • You will have proven experience in sustainability and a good understanding of the impacts of buildings on aspects such as climate change and energy consumption to help meet our net zero carbon goals.
  • You will also have a desire to share knowledge and work laterally with other teams.
  • You will be a keen advocate of the advantages of sustainability.

Experience Required:

  • Experience of championing sustainability and leading early project design
  • Experience and understanding of NZC design, renewable energy, dynamic thermal modelling and energy modelling
  • Experience and understanding of embedded carbon and all things carbon related
  • Experience and understanding of low carbon building design and management
  • Providing appropriate low carbon material and procurement solutions to lower the embodied carbon of a project
  • Knowledge of the UKGBC Net Zero and RICS Embodied Carbon guidance methodology for embodied carbon and experience of delivering results against the BREEAM standards.
  • Understanding of building certification methods (BREAM) (LEED) (WELL)
  • Knowledge of the Green House Gas emissions reporting
  • An understanding of renewable energy
  • Knowledge of dynamic thermal modelling for buildings
  • Managing workload and meeting project deadlines
  • Report writing experience and communication skills for clients and internal teams
  • Appropriate technical design experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience with liaising with clients and Architects is essential

Qualifications & Skills:

  • An appropriate degree and post graduate qualification, with extensive experience within sustainability.
  • Associate/ affiliate level qualification with an appropriate professional body is desirable
